There's a post on this subject who's comments are closed, but I wanted to add something that might help.

The OP recommends that you have your SO on the lease in case of a break up. I'm a landlord. I have been burnt by tenants too many times

I require all occupants to be on the lease and to be jointly and severally responsible for the obligations. This isn't to help the tenant, it is to make sure that I can go after either one of them in the event of a breakup.

So read your lease. It is likely that you are responsible for the whole rent no matter what happens with your relationship.
