I’m 19 years old and plan on moving soon, hopefully by July. I work at Napa Auto Parts where they pay $11.05/hr and I get 80 hours every two weeks so my checks after taxes usually come in at around $685-$698(up to $795 with overtime). Before they take away taxes, mandatory healthcare, and dental my checks typically run in the $820-$920 range so I’m really being stifled here. I have saved $2000 by putting $200 in each check that I possibly can.
My girlfriend who also works and will move in with me and help with a couple bills insists that if we have $2800 by July that that would be enough but I think otherwise simply because I don’t want to have us struggling to pay for things so I’m trying to make moves on the safe side so I’m currently looking for a second job.
My question to y’all is what is a decent amount when looking for an apartment with rent in the $650-$720 range, and how I should use the money that we save in the savings and save in the checking?
