So essentially I am having a bit of trouble deciding between a few of the Jansports and I am looking for some opinions, as well as any alternatives that maybe I missed which would be better to use as a daypack. Walking around the city, going out and about random places. I essentially would want to use it to hold, Water bottle, book, notebook, jacket/sweatshirt when necessary, a DSLR or 35mm SLR occasionally (in a wrap to protect it so no worries there), random other things I might buy when out (new shirt, or bluray, ect.), my tablet (sometimes), and other small items. For reference I am a short (5ft 2) guy. Overall I am think about 25-30 L or so pack. Trying to keep it to under $100 and closer to $50 if possible. Laptop sleeve is optional as I have two bags (L.L Bean and Timbuk 2 messenger) for when I bring my laptop.

My main contenders right now are:

  • Jansport Superbreak: I like the one pocket type style of this and if it had a water bottle pocket or a separator I would be sold.
  • Jansport City Scout/Right Pack: I believe these are same except material. Basically a bigger version of the Superbreak with a laptop sleeve (which i would use to separate my tablet and notebook from water bottle since I wouldn't be using a laptop with this bag).
  • Jansport Hatchet: I really like the idea of this one but am not quite sure on it. How big is the main pocket really is the big thing I don't know. The pictures made it look smallish from the laptop and tablet sleeves. Is it worth the price or is it better to just go with the City Scout for $20 less?
  • Jansport Foxhole: This one I am not sure about. It looks a little odd shaped but is on sale for a good price on Jansport. Also since I won't be using a laptop the side laptop pocket seems wasteful to me.

Is there a pack I am missing (either from Jansport or another company) or are these my best options? Which one(s) do you have or would recommend? Thank you!
