My mother-in-law recently moved in with us and got on social security. MIL worked for the IRS for 30+ years and retired a few years ago with a measly pension of a little over 2k a month. Practically all of that goes to her debts. When she got on social security she was under the impression she'd be receiving about 1200 a month from her deceased husband's social security but they later denied her and are giving her about 200 a month because she was a former government employee and she'd "be double dipping".

Is there any way we can fight this and get the other 1k a month? If so, can we get the past several months of social security as well? We're in Arizona if that matters. Thank you!
