Everything is state based, so you have to check every state you've lived in, worked in, etc. You fill out a form online and they send out a check.
The hit rate was high for my small sample, but I helped two friends claim just under $2,000. A handful of people didn't respond to my slightly creepy facebook messages informing them of their unclaimed property. I always had trouble making friends.
