Last paycheck I had $1350 in earnings, $300 was taken out in taxes. This paycheck I earned $1200 and was taxed $550. What gives?

I work for a major cell provider and have been for some time now. Does this sound like an error? If so, do I need to contact payroll or the IRS or some third group of mystical tax trolls?

Edit: I am not including non-tax line items in these amounts. The taxed amounts in the title are listed simply as "taxes".

Edit2: I am not looking at YTD taxes. That would be much more than $550.
