Hey everyone, Always appreciative of the help I've received here in the r/DIY community. After researching chalk paint vs latex paint when refinishing kitchen cabinets I want to hear as much advice or opinions as I can!Chalk Paint is what the wife wanted to use since it seems trendy and easier than traditional cabinet paint. My worries after research is that the cabinets will chip, stain from water and oil, and require annual maintenance with touch-ups and wax top coats.Latex cabinet paint seems to require a good primer (Killz oil based?) as well as more coats than chalk paint. Then either a wax or polyurethane finish.I'm not worried about the amount of work, but was hoping to select the most durable option since I have a two year old and can be a messy cook myself!Should I: - Prime with Kills Oil Based Stain Remover Primer then Chalk Paint, then Wax topcoat several times. - Just Chalk Paint then Wax topcoat several times (skipping any primer) -Prime with Oil Based Primer then use traditional latex(?) cabinet paints, then use poly or wax to finish -Consider another option? We have refinished cabinets before using the rustoleum kits, so we know how much work there is, but THESE cabinets are new builder quality MDF dark stain stock cabinets with no sanding or primer on them yet.Advice is greatly appreciated! I want these cabinets to hold up without regretting refinishing new cabinets. We were thinking of a blue color for the top and bottom cabinets if that matters. :) Cheers via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2qlDEfu
