Hello. I am hoping someone can help me as I am close to the deadline. My husband passed away unexpectedly on Monday. He had always done our taxes and was in the process of filing our 2017 taxes using turbo tax. I was trying to finish it today and when I get to the end, I get a message that because he contributed an excess to his IRA, I will have to pay 6% tax every year it is in the account. The money is currently in a traditional IRA and it recommends that I withdrawal the excess and put it in a Roth IRA. Is this something I should do? If so, would I qualify for an extension? I haven't gone through probate court to settle the estate yet. I hope I have included all the relevant information. Please forgive my ignorance with all of this, I am extremely overwhelmed right now and I just can't find a straight answer online.
