Good Afternoon r/DIY,I'm hoping someone here might be able to give me some advice or pointers on a sound I've been getting in my house since I moved in a few months ago. Below are links to two recordings of the sound:https://ift.tt/2q1nWWK noise always sounds like it's coming from one of two places. I've drawn up a quick diagram of where it sounds like the noise is coming from:https://ift.tt/2JgD9vR noise is definitely coming from between the floors. Whenever I'm downstairs and hear it, the noise sounds like it's coming from above. Then whenever I'm upstairs and hear it, the noise sounds as if it's coming from below. Looking this up I see a lot of suggestions towards plumbing, however I don't think it's linked to the plumbing:Doesn't sound like water hammerDoesn't only happen after flushing toilet / running taps / running washing machineThere may be a link to the heating, it's hard to tell with it being winter as the heating is almost always on during the evenings. To me it sounds more like wood literally cracking, but the ceiling hasn't fallen through yet! Some people might say it's just the house settling. I've lived in several houses & heard the noise of a house settling in each of these, this is significantly louder & to me sounds completely different.Whenever we've had people round they have all had the same reaction when they hear the noise. They get a really worried look on their face, then ask me if I heard it and if I know what it is. At the moment I just have to shrug and say I don't know what it is, but I would like to know. If it is just the house settling, then that's fine, I'd just like to know so when I'm asked I can then say "it's this" instead of not knowing.I'd appreciate any advice on where I should post about this, or who I should even speak to about this? Family have suggested bleeding the radiators & calling a plumber, but I'm not sure this is to do with the plumbing. Thanks all! via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2q0oOek
