Long time lurker looking for a bit of advice. I thought it would be a good idea to use my old BBQ island as a chance to try out some new DIY skills. My plan was to put some faux stone veneer directly over the existing brick veneer with a good power wash as surface prep. The nasty old tile came off pretty easy with a roto hammer, and I was going to put some basic tile back in its place. But, the old mortar hasn't been cooperating fully. Here are the current pics: imgur linkThe vertical faces came pretty clean when I tried, but the old top surface mortar refused to make it easy. One of the photos shows where I tried to get a bit aggressive to get it up with the roto hammer chisel, but it seemed like I was just digging into the concrete itself. It certainly wasn't popping off or anything simple like that.So yeah, does anybody have any advice? Should I score it first? Just try to grind it down? Or should I just power wash it and leave it?Thanks a lot! (hopefully this post complies with the rules) via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2HBWpUe
