After a lot of research I bought my boyfriend a pair of Allen Edmonds for his birthday a couple years ago. It has been great not having to buy a new pair of (not wide enough) doc martens every 6 months but...

He walks so much at work and on his commute that the soles are being worn down very fast. If we actually replaced the soles (heel included) as often as they wear down we'd be spending at least $750 every 2 years getting them replaced at Allen Edmonds.

His shoes are needing another resoling, technically they've needed it for at least 2 months now - no holes but the way he walks the inside of the heel wears down much faster and he's been stuck with a slight angle on the heel for this time. He's not especially heavy either.

Do we try a different shoe maker?
Do we send them to a local place for resoling?
Do we try the leather bottom ones instead of the rubber? And if we do this last one, will we also have to get inserts so his feet don't get sore?

IMHO minimum of $300 every damn year does not make these shoes worth it.
