So recently I've been taking steps to drastically reduce my social media usage. I was finding that I would often wake up, and the first thing i would look at is youtube or instagram, and throughout the day i would periodically check it. Thus far I have deleted Instagram, facebook, youtube, pinterest, the news, reddit and twitter from my phone. I will now only use my laptop to go on these websites, but i sometimes still catch myself browsing them when i'm bored, so i'm trying to cut back on that to. My general ethos right now is that i will only check social media when there is an intentional reason behind it. For example: I like watching this particular woman on youtube bc she's very inspiring and I know she posts on Fridays, so i will check youtube on a friday. Or sometimes i like to scroll through the local Vegan events page on facebook, to find other likeminded people. Otherwise, i'm not using any social media just for the sake of it. The only ones I have left on my phone are facebook messenger to message friends, whatsapp for the same reason and snapchat, again only to message friends.

I'm finding this difficult, but also very freeing. I often habitually look at my phone and feel disappointed when i realise i can't check reddit or twitter when i'm out and about but overall, it has made me happier to feel less reliant on my phone and i've been reading, writing and listening to podcasts a lot more. A good decision overall I feel :)
