I've been reading a lot of grocery budget posts lately and am just blown away at the number of folks who spend $20/week or less than $200/month on groceries. I'd like to reduce our grocery budget but can't seem to reconcile the difference between the $20/week budget and our current grocery spending.
If your grocery spending is below $200/month, what are you eating/buying every week? (not how much did you budget but how much are you actually spending?)
Are you eating mostly beans, rice and spaghetti? What's the percentage of fresh veg, fruit, dairy and meat in diet? Where do you live, and how many people in your family? We're a family of 3, eating a hybrid bastardized version of paleo, keto, and regular old American diet while also managing food allergies. We don't purchase soda, junk food, or prepped food (except for the occasional frozen pizza). Not sure what I'm doing wrong here because we end up w/ a grocery bill that's through the roof.
Also, a lot of people have posted that their dining out budget for the week is like $20. Where do you go eat that you can spend $20 for 2 people? Looking forward to this discussion and learning some tips/tricks.
*This post is totally cross posted in /askreddit because I'm new and don't know what the hell I'm doing but really want someone to explain this grocery budget business to me.
