A bit of background: It all started when I noticed that water would pool in specific areas of the crawl space after rain. With that, certain areas of my back/side yard would become waterlogged. I extended my downspouts and even put in a sump pump in the crawl. This helped resolve some of the water issues in the crawl space, but I still get moisture/pooling in certain areas of the crawl (see "current" diagram and try not to laugh) and the yard. My backyard slopes toward the house, but unless I put up some sort of retaining wall and redo the kids play area, I don't know if grading is possible. So I got to thinking about how I could resolve some of my water issues (see "potential" diagram...chuckle if you must). My thought is to put in an extra downspout where it seems to be lacking, create a drainage system (French drain? or some sort of combination perforated/solid pvc) diverting the water around the house and down to lower elevations, adding a dry well for my super soggy area, and adding catch basins to most of my downspouts, which would be connected to my drainage system. I've been quoted some outrageous numbers for this along with crawl space encapsulation (next project), but I think I can tackle it with some help from a few friends. My questions are: Do you see any issues with my potential setup? Is it overkill? Is it not enough? How do I figure out what drainage areas need to be perforated PVC, vs solid discharge?
