We do most of our shopping at Safeway and use a Safeway Savings Club Card. We usually save about $20 a week using the card. My wife saves another $10 a week going online to select "Just for You" savings. That is $30 a week in savings.
To many people it appears, giving a card to the cashier is not worth the hassle. The cashier, who has been there for years, says she sees the same people come in all the time who don't have a Safeway Savings Club Card. They pay full price.
$30 a week savings is $1560.00 a year. If you were 25 years old and put that money saved in an Index Fund that mirrored the total stock market and got the average 8% return, not even counting inflation, you would have $453,000.00 (If you increased that amount to inflation you would have an additional million dollars for retirement.)
