I'm cutting the shape of West Virginia out of pine to be used as a guest book for a wedding this weekend. They want it stained, and then plan to have people sign it with a sharpie type marker. What is my best bet for a type of stain that will look nice, but also play well with a sharpie? I was planning on using a gel stain so that it looks less blotchy, but i'm not sure how that will work with a marker. I also thought about just using mineral oil? Any ideas?
