Hi, so. I'm moving to a really small place (3m by 3m/9m2) to save on rent. It's also closer to the station and my gym + shopping centres so that's convenient too. Bit further from school but that's fine. Work is all over the suburbs so the bus stop and train station being near me is great.
(Made a floorplan for clarification)
My room is just one of the bedrooms btw, the house itself is rather large. I'm living in a sharehouse with some other folks so the kitchen, bathroom, garage, garden, sun room, laundry, etc is shared. The trees are apparently bearing fruit, and I think iirc they've got cherries, avocados, grapes, and peaches in the backyard? Have to double check on that but yeah.
Rent is less than 30% of my income, so that's a huge relief to be quite honest.
The rest will be budgeted for bills, work, personal (fun), and a strict savings amount. I've actually got enough money to spare to live freer this way.
I was thinking about sleeping on this foam play mat instead of getting a bed. I've got a sleeping bag if need be for colder days to keep myself warmer and a quilt and throw. Might get a table and turn it into a kotatsu for even more warmth too since the floors are wooden and not carpet. Might actually get a small carpet or rug for right underneath the table for kotatsu comforts. Also got some ottoman chairs for guests or general sitting as well with my stuff in it.
The mat could be folded into a chair of sorts too (or actually be used for activities like yoga etc) and I can place it against the wall and put the pillows on it.
Metal shopping cart for even the heavy things like a keyboard or other furniture (the city I'm in always has people constantly on the move where they might give away nice things that's other wise pricy for free). Since I've got no car and rely on the public transport. The trolley is foldable so it's space efficient, nice, and light. (Lol just saw someone use it for carrying a chair and a case. Guess it's a common tactic! Great to see in action!)
Everything else is just storage furniture since I don't need things to be on display (well maybe except the guitar and keyboard) and can take them when just needed. Everything will be in its ideally located spot. Thinking of keeping a stock list on clothing items, food items, books, etc (write down the expiration dates too, nutritional info, pictures of it, their location, the name of the items and brand if applicable, where bought with receipts and price tags and all, etc)
I've got a lot of stuff so I'm thinking of selling the unnecessary ones to get some cash back or donating them too.
I'm also subscribed to a 24/7 gym that provides a shower place including the soap plus a hairdryer is already there so I can just shower there after every work out and even study there overnight since it's quite empty then other than pop music but that's better than cars and traffic anyhow. Plus it's air-conditioned. It's quite hot these days where I'm at.
For food, it shouldn't be an issue. I've got a contracted job where I get 'paid' to eat out. First With my money so it looks like I'm a real customer and then later they'll pay me the same amount plus a bit more. I usually take away a lot because I've got a small stomach and refrigerate the rest or eat them for later the same day or just leave them cold overnight if it's something I like to eat cold (pasta, pizza, soup, lol most things really. Fight me).
Thoughts? Things I could improve on living more frugally? Thanks!
