What physical summer jobs have you done and how did you like them? I'm fortunate enough to live in British Columbia where there are lots of options. A few options I'm considering are cherry picking, tree planting, greenhouse labor, and golf course maintenance.
I'm 26 and have never had a physical outdoor job before. The most physical jobs I've had were dishwashing and factory line work at the newspaper. I'm physically fit though and go to the gym and enjoy sports and hiking.
I'm a college student taking computer science and I don't enjoy it. Sitting on a computer all day is boring and unhealthy. I don't really like to solve problems or think or take lots of responsibility. I'm leaning towards mindless monotonous jobs instead of a career because I like the freedom to quit and try something new whenever I want.
I'm thinking about alternating between a summer and winter job. For a while, I was a seasonal school portrait photographer until I went back to college. I wouldn't mind doing that and picking cherries in the summer or something.
I want to live and work like everyone did through history. In my opinion, life is about eating, sleeping, and exercise. Everything else is artificial. I get depressed every day just going to class and listening to professors ramble on for hours about things that mean nothing to me.
Maybe a physical summer job will change my mind, maybe it won't.
