The baby’s dad and I are still together. He recently got a job as a used car salesmen. It’s hourly (minimum wage) and commission (depending on cost of the car) he gets a cut and residues. I work as a kinder teacher. However, where I work it’s about a 45-1 hour commute, I live in Texas, work in New Mexico. I get my insurance through the school. I have vision, dental, and overall medical insurance. I am also considered a temporary employee, I was a late hire, starting a few weeks after school started. So let’s say there’s not enough kids who sign up for kinder to have 5 kinder teachers, I am the first one to go. Which would leave me to work at a another school for that district. Before finding out I was pregnant, I was hoping to find a job within my city limits instead of driving to the next state.
We live in a guest home in the back of someone’s house. It’s really tiny, we barely have enough room for ourselves and our dog. We were thinking of getting into a small home, bigger than what we’re living in but small enough for our family.
So I know my boyfriend will be fine with his job, but my situation is getting tricky. I’m due the first week in October. I will be getting paid for the summer from my current job. I just don’t think making that commute was in my cards and not something I want to keep doing when I’m far along. I’m scared that I’ll get rejected for a new job because by then I’ll be so close to having my baby and let’s get real I don’t think anyone would want to hire a high risk. They can’t discriminate but they can definitely look the other way and hire someone “more qualified.”
I was thinking for the summer maybe working at a call center and saving up that money toward the baby and my maternity leave.
What do you guys think? I’m fucking terrified.
