Hello, I'm leaving England this March to travel Europe on a bicycle, using a tent to sleep in (wild camping) and a camping cook set to keep me fed. Thus minimising costs dramatically.
Cycling 30 miles each day means I need to pile on the calories but that also leaves me scratching my head wondering how to reduce costs without weighing myself down and leaving me drained of energy.
I need calorific dense foods that don't take up much room and can be munched along the road without too much prep.
The current plan is to cycle from north spain to portugal, back up to france then onto italy and back again to france.
Fruit and nut produce should be available at markets along the way but what about cost effective warm meals that provide the most energy for evenings and breakfast?
In an ideal world each day would cost around £5 (around $7). Other cycle tourists have managed to reduce this cost to a few pounds in the past but there hasn't been much information regarding how they did that and their specific expenses.
I'm not planning on spending much on excursions as I feel the bike will be adventure enough and there are plenty of free places to visit and experience..
TLDR: How can I spend £5/$7 per day on food in southern Europe? (high caloric dense food to fuel cycling a few hours each day)
Any and all advice is hugely appreciated even if you don't feel it's 100% related it could still help :) thanks!
