My first six years as a home home owner I avoided some of the typical home maintenance in order to save time and money. Over the last year of needing some major repairs and replacement, I think this cost me much more than it needed to. I’m resolving to spend the time and money ahead where needed to avoid major repairs and make things last longer. Here’s my list of maintenance items. Curious what all of you do:

  • stain the deck and patio every 2 years
  • seal the driveway every year
  • re caulk the tubs and showers every year
  • lubricate garage door parts every other year
  • clean furnace every other year
  • stain the house (cedar - north east harsh weather) every 5 years
  • central air unit - ??? Currently nothing, feel I’m missing something here
  • clean dryer vent every year -lubricate window tracks every spring (older and starting to stick)
  • clean gutters spring and fall
  • clean out garbage disposal trap every year
  • draino the tubs once a year or as needed. Clean out manually every month
  • clean out bathroom faucet drains annual

I’m sure there more I should be doing. Let me know your thoughts. I am by means handy but can figure these things out most of the time.
