So I've been wondering for a while now how much laundry costs, and more specifically, are cloth diapers really a significant cost savings. I used [this website](In case anybody is curious how much a load of laundry costs I found this website today. http://michaelbluejay.com/electricity/laundry.html) to calculate the costs entailed in a load. For us it comes out to $51 per year for all our laundry, not just diapers (see the left column, ignore the right one). So this is 20 cents per load which for diapers is 20-25 diapers where as buying disposable ones is about 15 cents each here. The costs savings is obviously significant. This is also easy to see when a box of diapers is about $20 on sale and lasts around a month, so that alone would be $240 per year versus around $20 for our laundry.

I am also not including the cost of buying the diapers because I got all of them second hand for $1-5 each as well as many for free. I am using them on a second child now and will be selling them when I'm done so they essentially have no cost or it's so low it isn't really relevant.
