This happened a few years ago when I had just moved to the US and purchased my first vehicle (an used 2000 infiniti).
I had zero knowledge about car insurance at that time so I just went to the nearest insurance office around me.
I met with the agent who told me that my quote would be $3000+ for 6 months. She reassured that this would be the lowest offer possible anywhere because I had just obtained my license and my car was too old.
Being young and naive, I signed the contracted and paid the first month of my plan.
Luckily, one of my roommate knew about that and cancelled the plan immediately for me.
I got the refund and moved on to another insurance company.
Just a life lesson that I want to share.
