I have been wearing my black GA-100 every single day for the past 7 years. It's been through a lot. Here are the issues I have observed with this model and what I am looking for in a new watch:
Glass: Scratches pretty easily. Looking for more scratch-resistant glass.
Band: I finally went with a nylon strap after replacing the stock strap 3 times. It sucks. Once it gets wet repeatedly, it starts to crack and fall apart.
Band pins/pin holes: This watch has been ripped off my arm quite a bit. Every time this happens it makes it more likely to happen again because the plastic pin holes get more and more stripped. Looking for a watch that has a metal body to prevent this.
Plastic screw holes: I've only had to change the battery about 3 times in the 7 years I've had it. But one of the screw holes was easily stripped on my last battery swap. I had to reinforce it with JB Weld. No telling how long it will last and keep moisture out. Again, a metal body would help prevent this.
Face: I've never liked the face of this watch. When the hour and minute hands are in the right position, it blocks your ability to read the digital readouts. Very annoying. Looking for an all digital face or if it is analog, a face that is completely readable 100% of the time.
Digital LCDs: When in a dark room, it's almost impossible to read the two LCD screens when you press the illuminate button. I have to hold my finger on the glass to reflect the light back down on the LCD. They should have their own lights.
Light: The orange light allows you to read the time, but it's in such a bad placement that you cannot read anything else unless you do the finger trick as previously mentioned.
Anything I didn't mention I believe is good about the watch. Any suggestions of another watch around $100-200 that would suit my needs?
