I currently making 42k a year with ok benefits at a not great company. It's not the best, but it's not so terrible I need to quit and get out ASAP.
I got an offer from another company, a startup that's ranked top 10 on one of those disruptive new companies to watch up for lists. The offer is at 65k with great benefits. However there are a lot of signs that workers are expected to pull massive overtime and a ton of review on glassdoor talking about how terrible the work conditions are.
However my main things is this. I live at home rent free, my commute to my current workplace is 5 minutes tops. The new company is located 1.5 hours away in a city where you either get lucky with street parking (and move your car every 2 hours) or pay $20 a day for a garage. The company doesn't reimburse you. You can take public transit into the city, but that up the commutes to 2+ hours.
I'd like to think the new offer will open up more room for growth, but a lot of the duties sound identical to what I'm doing. I'd just be using new software which I guess means I'm learning something new. The higher salary is REALLY tempting, but the insane commute has me second guessing and wondering if I can find something a bit closer.
Any advice?
Edit: For context, I've also looked into apartments near/in the city. The cheapest apartment I can find is $1500 in a not great location and roommates. For an average apartment with roommates, it'll come to around $1800.
