Trading Shares is safer and better for putting long term investments in the portfolio, but options go up 100's of % over the course of a week, but you expose yourself to full risk because they will drop just as quick.
Ex. VRX stock goes up 3 points in a week
if you have 10 shares your gain is $30 dollars
if you had 10 options you gain would be alot more like 500% (in a week)
you just have to be on top of everything to be in the option game
