Last December I fell off my bicycle and got some pretty bad road rash. My hand clearly needed stitches and the people who witnessed the crash drove me to the ER and dropped me off. I checked in and waited about an hour. They then took me back to the X-ray tech, then did some X-rays. After that they took me back into the main waiting room, where I sat there bleeding for over two hours. At this point my Girlfriend had showed up and I said "you know what, my wounds are sitting here festering and drying up. I could have done a better job at home. This is ridiculous, let's leave"
So I left.
Three months later I finally manage to get them to send me an itemized bill for the "services". Original amount was almost 1900, but since I had insurance, I owed the "negotiated" rate of 763. I also got a separate bill from the radiologist and another bill for an X-ray. Also a third bill for a doctor I never saw.
but I'm mainly trying to dispute the 763 dollar bill from the hospital. The other bills are much smaller... The breakdown on the original bill had 1,093 for the physician, which I never even saw or got taken back to the room to see. the remaining 800+ was for the radiology/x-ray, which I did receive.
What's the best way to go about disputing this? The phone number on the bill isn't even the hospital, it's some third party out of state company. Should I hire a medical advocate? I read a lot of bad reviews on them...
