So the time has come to replace our washer and dryer. We currently have an LG washer which was Consumer Reports #1 from a few years back and some ghetto $400 dryer. The LG is one of those stainless drums sans agitator and is full eco/HE washer that is full of suck when it comes to actual cleaning.
I go to /r/BuyItForLife like a real man and find very little in the search engine, so here's my take for January 2018 regarding TOP LOAD WASHERS:
Speed Queen: 'Merica. Expensive. Hard to find. Titanic. Sadly.....2018 sees the new TR3/TR5/TR7 series. TR7 is extra attractive as it has a 7 year bumper to bumper warranty. But, they've changed the action of the agitator. Its now the new eco version where the whole drum spins one way and the agitator spins in the other direction, then they both reverse. SEE IT. I do not like this new action one bit in terms of cleaning ability.
Here's an OG Speed Queen in action using the traditional agitation. SEE IT. So if you like this action which has been THE action since Nixon was in office, look to the 2017 and previous models featuring long ass part numbers vice the new TR3/TR5/TR7 naming schema.
My new baby will be the Maytag MVWP575GW washer and Maytag MEDP575GW dryer. The Maytag washer is 'Merica. Expensive. Hard to find. This brand new line is in 100% reaction to the Speed Queens. They ware made in the Maytag commercial plant/line vice the consumer plant/line. Like the Speed Queens...you ain't gonna find these at a big box store. They come with a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty and a lower pricepoint than Speed Queen.
My Maytags are on the way and while I have no run time, I'm confident these should be legit. I was gonna get the 2017 Speed Queens that I found locally, but the the killer was the price difference I found locally:
- Speed Queen set with electronic controls and 5 year warranty were $1800 for the set.
- Sqeed Queen set with knobs and 3 year warranty were $1660 for the set.
- The Maytag commercial set with 5 year warranty were $1450 for the set.
So that's what I found. Like it, mock it, or post what you have found.
