I'm currently a junior in high school whose 2011 Macbook pro just completely died unexpectedly. This means an expense I thought could wait until college has now crept into urgency. I've been looking into getting a used Surface with a digitizer pen, since that could be really useful for taking notes, but is that extra ~$150-200 expense worth it over a standard laptop? Additionally, how much can one expect prices on used laptops to improve within a 1.5 year period?
The options I've found so far for a used Surface would be to buy a refurbished i7 Surface 3 from Newegg for ~$830 (including the pen and keyboard) or a used i5 Surface 2017 for ~$950 (I could probably haggle lower) from a local seller.

Edit: forgot to mention I plan on majoring in CS, so having a well-working machine will be pretty important.
