Long story short, I've been working in the construction industry since I was 19 (I'm now 25). I'm hoping to exit employment by the time I'm 35 to start my own business so I can work on my own terms. That failing I would look to work a low stress part time job. I'm not interested in making a boat load of money but the move is inspired by lifestyle choice. In the meantime, I've got to save hard, earn as much as possible to pay down my mortgage and have a decent pension so in essence I can be rich enough to choose to be poor (sort of).
Unfortunately, part of that means tolerating the classic corporate bullshit pretending I have great aspirations in my current career and networking with the right people etc. It's starting to really grind me down especially having to work weekends to get my chartership which is mandatory in my field.
Any advice or experiences you guys can share to better cope/tolerate this aspect of working amongst absolute careerists?
