Working on building some thin floating shelves. Plan is to do 2"x10"x48" boards (sanded, stained, etc.) for a rustic/modern look, similar to this site (http://ift.tt/2B8MwZt). The plan is, however, NOT to use the traditional box/bracket design, and instead use pocket holes at a slightly less deep drill depth with a drywall or timber screw into the stud through the pocket. The load is likely to be some books (Stormlight Archive, Harry Potter, ASOIAF, etc.), which aren't exactly featherweights. There are four or five studs in the wall to tie into, and it looks like the shear of most pocket joints would be fine, but I wanted to check if anyone had done a similar pocket-stud combo and found it fine for decent weight loads (say 50lbs).Thanks! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2Dk8U8a
