I just bought a new TV and I am looking to mount it above my fireplace where my previous TV was. The new TV is an 82" Samsung and it weights ~100lbs. I purchased a new MonoPrice mount that allows the TV to be pulled out and down so you can watch it at eye level when sitting on the couch. Here's the mount: http://ift.tt/2GePsHG issue I'm facing is that the studs above my fireplace are not aligned so the mount can be perfectly centered. It's off center by about 5-6". Unlike some other mounts I can't just slide the TV to the left or right on the mount due to the weight of the TV.What I would like to do is cut out the drywall and double or triple up the studs to provide a centered anchor. The fireplace is on an exterior wall. Here's what I'm looking to do:http://ift.tt/2rCYw5N question is about the length of the studs that would be sistered to the existing studs. Would the new studs I'm adding need to be the full length of the existing studs? Being an exterior wall with a vaulted ceiling I'm not sure how far up the studs go up and getting the same length stud in there could be challenging. I've also looked at the plywood suggestions but I'm worried about how secure that would be with such a heavy TV and a mount that puts a lot of stress on the wall. I'd also use this opportunity to run conduit for AV cables and power for an outlet behind the TV.Any insight is greatly appreciated! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2Gd7NF6
