I'm looking for a good Windbreaker that will work for most seasons and most use cases. Where I live, wind proof and water resistant is good enough as rain isn't common. However, surviving in sprinkles and light rains is preferable. There is no snow in the winter season and I'd probably just layer something underneath it for warmth.
I've tried a few windbreakers and want ones with a hood (that you can tighten or loosen as needed) and no pit zips (honestly it should be breathable without one). The hood should have a safe place to be stored if I'm not using it. I want one that is breathable when hiking and has mesh or at least I think it should. From experimenting, I do like wrists without the elastic tab/pull to make it tighter/looser. I don't mind this on the waist (bottom) on the windbreaker itself. Optimistically I would want more than one pocket, but I don't see that in the field and also it has it's own case when you pack it down. I don't mind the weight, more so that it is durable. I think all waterproof needs DWR? I would like one without having to reapply the coating since I've never done it but it's not a dealbreaker if it needs to do it either. Wind is a problem where I'm at and prefer it, when the wind is blowing at my face, that the hood does not obstruct my eyes if possible. If it can also fit a flat cap that would be amazing.
Fitwise I would prefer a medium Marmot Train Wind Hoody but I can't seem to find them, at least in any color I like. I've tried the medium Paragonia Houdini but that does not fit me correctly. the body is good but the arm/wrists are too narrow to preform any physical activity. If it was not a slim fit, it might work. Outdoor research does not really fit me well so that's out of the picture.
I don't like bright colors but I don't like neutral windbreakers either. I prefer mellower colors that aren't too bright or bold but isn't just black or white. Having it be reflective is a plus.
My budget is sub $150, preferably around $100 or less. I don't need any insulation and prefer breathability over waterproofness. I hate the wax inside the REI one for that reason. I don't know if this is a bad time to ask since it doesn't seem to be the season, so if there are no good recommendations, brands will also work for fit since I can look for them in the next few months? I can repost it later on if needed, if it's just bad timing. I'm asking now so I don't need a jacket but a windbreaker.
