Hoping this post is appropriate for the subreddit and follows the rules, so here it goes:I recently bought a house and have been fixing it up piece by piece. Now that I'm in the kitchen, I painted the walls/ceiling, sanded/repainted the cabinets, and now I'm working on the floor. The previous owners just laid carpet over the subfloor without securing it, which looked as bad as it sounds, so I rolled the carpet up and found this:http://ift.tt/2BYwFxb floor is fairly flat except for the seam coming up near the patio door and the flaking near the entry to the dining room.I've been searching the internet/asking folks at lowes/trying to figure out exactly what the subfloor is made of, but with little luck. My big question is if it's okay to just lay vinyl tile over it. Underneath the house, it looks like plywood on top of the wood beams, but I'm still not sure what is on top of the plywood.Any help/info would be appreciated, but my plan was to clean the subfloor, roll on some primer, and then just stick on the self-adhesive tiles to the floor. Should I pull up the subfloor, or just lay the tile on top of the existing subfloor? D I need to level the subfloor for tile? Do I need an underlayment? Again, anything pointing me in the right direction would help.ThanksEDIT: the house was built in 1938, if that helps any via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2Ah8Q3v
