I'm replacing carpeting throughout my condo with 3/8" engineered hardwood, floating click-lock style. The subfloors are 5/8" plywood under 1/2" Gyp-crete. My HOA president is recommending/requiring a double underlayment with a 1/8" combo moisture + acoustic barrier on the bottom and 1/4" cork on top. I ran this by flooring guys at Lowe's & Home Depot, and got some strange looks, and was specifically recommended to NOT do this as the softness could stress the click-lock joints. Is double underlayment ever a standard practice? Should I ignore the HOA president, and go with the flooring experts? That is what my gut is telling me, both from an execution and cost standpoint. The HOA is autocratically run by the lady that has lived there longest so I have a feeling someone sold this method to her in the past and it has become gospel since. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2zNKT3C
