I've been asked to describe the process as simply as possible for someone, does this look ok? Thanks in advance guys, great sub!How to put up shelvesA step-by-step guide for proper ledges. You will need: Two brackets, spirit level, electric drill, 30mm+ screws, pencil, 3-in-1 pipe-and-stud detector, a shelf1) Find a sturdy studIdentify a spot on the wall strong enough to bear weight. Plaster walls are supported by vertical wooden beams called ‘studs’. Buy or borrow a stud detector to make finding a stud – and any wires or pipes that might be lurking – a doddle. (For masonry walls – brick, etc – you can skip this step).2) Screw itPush the long arm of one bracket flush to the wall, at the desired height, in line with a stud. Screw through the topmost hole, into the stud, until tight. (For brick walls forget the stud bit, but do use a wall plug to prevent your masonry crumbling).3) Get plumbUse a spirit level to make your bracket dead straight – or ‘plumb’, as the experts say – on its vertical axis . Drill another screw into the bottom hole of the bracket to secure.4) Double upAgain with your spirit level, draw a long straight line from the top of your first bracket, up to where you’d like the second bracket. Ideally, this too will be in line with a stud.5) Lay it downMake sure the top of the second bracket is level with your long pencil line. Drill in bracket number two: as before, top hole first, and use the spirit level to get plumb. Now rest your shelf on top of both, flush to the wall, and screw in from below. Relax, crack a beer and feel smug. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2yhUuxT
