Is anyone familiar with water control issues for a brick basement?I've got a ~140 year old house with a brick foundation. The bricks absorb ground moisture, and to some degree evaporate it into the basement. They're never moist to the touch, but I can tell from mineral deposits and paint failure that there's some flow. I believe that's how its supposed to work, and it isn't a problem. But, now I'm thinking of finishing the basement, and wondering if I should put a vapor barrier up or not. The concern is that if I do, that will trap water in the bricks, eventually causing some kind of problem. Do the bricks need to breathe? My choices seem to be expose and seal the bricks, or use greenboard/cementboard with or without a vapor barrier. Any ideas which is the right approach? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2imHVzo
