Now that I'm not living 100% paycheck-to-paycheck, there's not only room in the budget for routine maintenance items that increase the longevity of my possessions (and, frankly, my body/health or friendships/family) like sealing the deck or staying up-to-date on scheduled car maintenance, but I also can afford small luxuries/wants that increase my happiness/health/social-ability. Reasonably priced makeup, for example, to boost my self confidence in public situations. TOTALLY a luxury in my case, but spending $5 or whatever on some mascara can make me feel more confident at work.
But I still want to be frugal/thoughtful/deliberate about which of these small luxuries I indulge in. And of course, if the budget got ultra tight again, these luxuries would be the first on the chopping block.
What luxuries do you indulge in, but still consider yourself frugal? I'm honestly interested in what people here see as luxuries/"wants" in their budget (if any). Things that REALLY make you happier enough that they are justified in a "frugal" lifestyle.
Some of mine include makeup (like I said), travel, owning a car (there's enough buses in my town that I could probably go without), dyeing my hair, notebooks to journal in, fancy tea, fresh roasted coffee beans, pets, TSA precheck, Amazon Prime, CSA vegetables, my ukulele, craft beer.
