Sort of cross-posted from /r/keto:

My husband had to have a relatively minor outpatient surgery a few weeks ago (hemorrhoidectomy), was made to believe it was not a big deal. Got the bill today, and even with insurance, our out-of-pocket is going to be more than when I spent three days in the hospital with the labor and delivery of my daughter (same hospital). Total bill with anesthesia is just under $5200 (almost $16000 before insurance discounts). Had a full-blown panic attack.

We have $1200 in our HSA and can technically pay the rest out-of-pocket, but it means no Christmas this year and the car better not break down anytime soon. We HATE debt and would really rather not do a payment plan, especially because the hospital will knock off ten percent if we pay in full. Is this something that can be negotiated? Is their pricing way out of line? I'm desperate for any help or recourse, thank you for listening to my story.
