Couple of weeks ago I was getting gas at a normal self service pump. Once you inserted the card, it was very hard to pull the card back out. After trying a couple times and not being able to complete a transaction, I went to another pump.
Fast forward to tonight. I was on the road and received a text message that there was a transaction on my Chase Sapphire card (same one from the gas station). It was from a whole foods in a nearby city, but one which I've never been to, $120ish.
I called and got it taken care of and got the card canceled, no problem. Chase Sapphire customer service is always very good.
Was the physical difficulty with the card reader a dead giveaway? Is there any point in me going back to the gas station in question and warning them? Like I said, this was several weeks ago, so even if there was a skimmer there I'm sure it's gone by now. Possibly the card being compromised was a coincidence. However, I've had this particular Chase Sapphire card for a year or two and never had any problems with it before. I know it doesn't matter much these days, but I don't use the card for any risky transactions online or anything like that.
