Public libraries are paid by property taxes, so if you pay those you're already paying for your local library. Why not get the most bang for your buck?

  1. Check out books instead of buying them.

This one is obvious, but often you can put holds on bestsellers months before they come out and get them as soon as the library does.

  1. Check out DVDs

Libraries usually buy all the latest releases which you can watch instead of having cable, renting them, paying to see them, or going to the movies.

  1. Use an ILL

ILL stands for Inter-library loan. If one library doesn't have an item, they can often request the item from another library. Free of charge to you.

  1. Free performers

Libraries often have local performers that provide free entertainment for adults and kids.

  1. Story time for kids

The children's department usually has free story times and other kids programs. Great for socialization and sometimes better than other after school activities and it's free. These include book clubs, crafts, etc.

  1. Free meeting room spaces

Some libraries have free gathering spaces for patrons that you don't have to pay for. Local groups can book these rooms to meet (usually non-profits) or you might even be able to book a room for a wedding or birthday party if it's small.

  1. Free computer use

Libraries provide free wifi and internet access. If you need to cut your wifi for your budget for a few months, the library is a good alternative to be able to still have some form of wifi.

  1. Cheap printing

Printing isn't usually free at libraries but it's often more discounted than office supply stories. Print your items at your library!

  1. Free digital books, audiobooks, and magazines

Libraries often subscribe to free databases that provide access to digital books and magazines that you can access from tablets, phones, and computers.

  1. Free tutoring

Some libraries provided free online tutoring via online subscriptions or tutoring for adults or children at the library itself.

These are just a few of the reasons you should use your public library and save a bundle doing it!
