Hi there,I have a very old home (100+ years), and am in the process of redoing the kitchen. Admittedly I'm very new to all of this. The current floor was just peel and stick tile, over top of another old layer of cheap old laminate tile. Beneath this is the plywood subfloor which is a bit of a putting green. For the most part its flat enough to lay flooring. It might not be flat if you laid a level on it, but it's uniformly graded/unlevel, so flooring would still lay flat. There are a couple spots that are slightly worse, and one definite valley in the hallway leading to the basement staircase which I've filled with levelling cement. Now a couple questions:I've already bought a nice 24x12 vinyl floating tile that I was looking forward to using. But how perfectly flat does a floor need to be for this to work? I'm wondering if a regular ceramic tile with mortar might be better since each tile could kind of "sit" flat over its own mortar? If I stick with the floating vinyl, should I put it right over the existing peel and stick? Or take that off and put it on the plywood? I'm leaning towards taking it off, because in the parts where I have removed it, it's still really sticky underneath, so I think that adhesive residue might help to keep the vinyl in place. Also, I know that the proper solution would be to fix the subfloor, but the reality is that that solution isn't feasible for me at this time. So I'm looking for my best alternative. Thanks very much in advance for any advice.Edit: here's a picture that will hopefully add some context to what I'm working with. You can see the existing floor; where I've removed the peel and stick; where I poured the levelling cement; and where I had to add plywood under the old cabinets. It's not exactly a straightforward flooring job.http://ift.tt/2yViiJM via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2iI9cfA
