Hello r/DIY!I'm seeking advice and opinions on how to best frame up an existing structure - the larger project is converting an existing carport into additional conditioned space. I'm new to posting to /DIY so I'll do my darndest to be complete. The house already has a series of footers, posts, and beams in place supporting the existing structure and roof. I've had an engineer review the setup and help create a floor framing and bracing plan, so I'm not too concerned about structure itself, but I'm scratching my head on one detail of the framing and I'm curious for some opinions on how to proceed (and any code implications I might need to consider) - preferably without paying the engineer yet again...In a nutshell: the existing posts and header beams are 4x4's and double 2x6's, respectively. I could just frame 2x4 walls and everything would fit nice and snug...but then I thought about runnings things like electrical in from the attic. Since every wall in the space will have a double 2x6 on top, and since boring through that to run things like electrical doesn't seem wise, I thought about framing 2x6 walls instead...but marrying the existing 4x structure with a new 6x raises some questions.Build is in Austin, TX in case that makes an impact on code restrictions - we follow the 2015 IRC.Gallery with existing structure and 2 options via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2kn3Bvw
