TL;DR Baby needs more warmth than us. Is electric heater in bedroom at night or turning up the temp (gas furnace) more efficient?

Last year we kept our house at 60 all winter. It was chilly, but we live in a mobile home and were a little late to do any major weatherization.

We just had a son and he’s about 2.5 months now. So he’s going to be pretty little all winter. I dress him in fleece sleepers and wrap him in a fleece Halo sleep sack.

When it gets down to 65 in the house at night his hands and head are very cold. He doesn’t complain, but I don’t think it’s right to let him get that cold. So, I have resorted to turning on the heat very early this year.

We plan on weatherstripping, closing off our small room to retain body heat, taking advantage of sunlight/the oven, shrink wrapping windows, sausage dogs under doors, and anything else I’ve read about here.

I baby wear pretty much all day long. We were thinking of keeping the thermostat low during the day. Then turning it up a bit at night.

Would this be more or less efficient than just having a electric heater in our room? He sleeps about 10 hrs a night. That seems like a long time to run it. I don’t know how to figure the cost difference between the two.

Any other tips are appreciated too. Thanks in advance.
