I had a credit score of 792. Yesterday I was checking my score, hoping it reached 800, but it dropped all the way to 647. I checked to see the reasoning and it was because of a "presence of derogatory public record or collection". I immediately contacted a collection agency regarding this because I did owe money, but already paid it in full. They claimed that I owed around $300 to a hospital from February 2017 and I already paid $300 to a different hospital from January 2017. I was puzzled considering the only amount I owed in September 2017 was $130 and I paid it off, so I would imagine they would have informed me of my bill from February? My dad also shares the same name as I, and I never went to a hospital in January as I was out of state the entire month. I'm not sure if the hospital accidentally checked my dad in as me and I got billed.
I'm sorry this is such a mess and I hope you understand. Could someone please answer my questions?
- Will my credit score be fixed if I fix this problem?
- What are the steps I should do to fix this?
Thank you so much for helping.
