Throwaway account for obvious reasons.

Background: I'm single, financially secure (no debt, make about $100K a year in tech), and in my late 20s. I'm in New York.

A few years ago, after I graduated college, I got my first credit report. Everything I expected was on there, plus another student loan I had no knowledge of, but my dad was a co-signer on. This loan had minimum payments and wouldn't be paid off until around 2030. I confronted him about it, and he insisted that it should've been in his name, he got a letter saying he could get a loan if a student lived with him and since the bank messed up he couldn't do anyhing about it. Eventually he said he'd pay it off, and he did.

Now he's asking me to promise to give him money in case he doesn't have enough after he retires. I asked him if everything was okay, and his response was "just in case. I need you to promise to give me a couple hundred a month." Eventually he got pissed and said that I owe him $75,000 for him raising me and that I need to give him the money. I left.

He says he really needed the money at the time, but he won't say what for. The mortgage on his house is completely paid off. At this point I'm suspecting there's a gambling addiction or something I don't know of.

I'm worried he might try to take out more loans or credit cards in my name because he thinks he deserves more money from me. What can I do to protect myself from this?
