Hi everyone! First post here on /r/FinancialPlanning. I've been saving for a house and have saved well more than my downpayment but am still looking. Instead of having a decent amount of money sitting in a savings and gaining NOTHING I'm interested in putting some money into stocks. I'm thinking about $5K. Does anyone have tips for beginners playing the stock market. I'd like to keep things simple and low risk to start.
On the other hand, I'm also thinking about investing in some rental properties. There are alot of unskilled laborers/ perennial renters in my area, so I know I could keep a rental full.
I work for myself and am 32F. I know I need to start planning for retirement. My BF (who I hope will become more than that in the near future) has a government job and is vested in that retirement, but I don't have anyone to match contributions to a 401K or anything.
I'm pretty frugal and have managed to enroll in a loan repayment program which should offset some of the debt I incurred going past a bachelors.
