Hey guys, kind of freaking out.
Okay, so here's my situation. I've got about $3000 in grants, specifically the Pell Grant. I have accepted the grant, signed up for classes, and have got the books. Because of my living situation, I am moving and thinking about dropping classes altogether. However, I found out through Google that I have to pay back the money I did not use. So, I'd have to pay back about $1000 if I dropped out.
I looked at my FAFSA account activity, and saw that I had a balance of -$1,182. I also saw this message:
"Today you must have one of the following in place or you will be removed from your classes after midnight: 1) Financial Aid awarded 2) 3rd party authorization on file 3) click on this button to pay or enroll on the payment plan."
I am confused because I was sure I accepted all the payment plans (for the grants to pay the classes), accepted the awards, owed nothing, and was all set to go. My questions are:
Would it be a better idea if I dropped most of my classes and just took 6 online credits to satisfy the credit amount FAFSA asks (my advisor told me this), in order to keep FAFSA active on my account and avoid paying anything back? This way I can still keep the program, apply to a new school for the spring. And why is my balance negative?
Sorry if I'm jumbled or if I'm asking silly questions. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
