Just moved into my first house this summer. Apparently there used to be a second story deck/balcony, but it collapsed long ago so now all I have is a sliding glass door that opens up into thin airhttps://imgur.com/BsCFJ6dThe back patio is in bad shape - it sank along with the house, then parts of it were torn up and patched when the foundation was repairedhttps://imgur.com/6a1pzfuI think tearing it up and getting it hauled off would be more than I can afford right now so I was thinking about just laying down sleepers and decking over the uneven concrete (shimming as needed)http://ift.tt/2xlUa49 question is, how would I secure the posts for a new second story deck? I'm thinking about something small and "simple", maybe 5'x6'. The rough estimates I've gotten to have it done are $4,000 and up, so need to see if I can tackle it myself (but still end up with a safe deck - do NOT want to do this: https://youtu.be/z-yAWe-rMiM )I know to use lag bolts, to flash properly, etc - http://ift.tt/2wFN2Mf how do I secure the 6x6 posts? Should I bolt brackets onto the concrete directly then secure the posts to the brackets (lag bolts) , or should I tear up small areas of the concrete and dig deep holes (3-5 feet) filled with concrete to secure the posts? Or another option I'm not aware of?PS I will be going to my city office and making sure I get this permitted and inspected - I don't want to make something that going to hurt of kill someone. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2xlVgwL
