I just moved into the top floor of a small 2-story apartment building. Love the apartment and I was super excited to cut down on ambient apartment noise by being on the top floor until...Our downstairs neighbors have two toddlers and I can constantly hear and feel the sound and vibrations from their running/toddling and crying all day. The neighbors are super, super nice but unfortunately there's just not much that they can do about having 2 little kids. Often these sounds seem as though they are coming from above - even though I am on the top floor.I work from home so I'm trying to figure out a few things I can do to try to limit the noise as much as I can. I've never heard of downstairs noise traveling up like this before, so maybe there's something weird about the construction of the building (it was remodeled just a couple of years ago so most of the construction is basically brand new).I just bought some carpets to cover the wood floors, but what are some other affordable, non-permanent measures I can take to cut down on the noise/vibration? I understand that no temporary project is going to solve the problem, but if spending a couple of hundred bucks on some DIY sound-blocking measures does anything to help with the noise, it'll be worth it to me.The landlord is incredibly strict about changes, so there's no way I can do any kind of structural or permanent fix.Specifically, I'm interested in either building some panels packed with some sort of sound blocking material to put up in my bedroom and office walls or finding another material I can hang on the wall to help muffle the sound of toddler crying first thing in the morning. Materials that seem like they could be helpful include:denim wall insulation packed into some kind of frame and covered with fabricthick wool felt covering (like a carpet pad?)moving blanketshome theater curtainsto get really fancy about it, cutting thick colored felt into geometric shapes like thisThanks! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2heXjco
